Gang Member Arrested In Suspected Theft

FERNDALE, Wash. -- Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies used a fingerprint to catch the suspect of a burglary near Ferndale.

Deputies were investigating the break-in at a home on West Axton Road June 29 when they found the fingerprint on the trim of a bedroom window.

Sheriff Bill Elfo says the print matched that of 20-year-old Pedro David Gonzalez, a convicted felon from Mount Vernon whose fingerprints were already in the files of the state patrol crime laboratory.

He says Gonzales is a confirmed member of the Nortenos gang.

Elfo says the homeowner did not know Gonzalez and he had no reason to be inside the home.

He was arrested after a short foot chase in Mount Vernon last Friday.

Gonzales was charged with first degree burglary and booked into Whatcom County Jail.

He bailed out of jail yesterday after a judge set his bail at $80,000 on Monday.
