LAKEWOOD, Wash. (Metro) -- Lakewood police are disappointed to learn that the sister of the man who gunned down four fellow Lakewood officers walked out of prison this morning, after serving half of her five-year sentence.
Maurice Clemmons shot and killed the four officers at a Parkland coffee shop in November of 2009.
La Tanya Clemmons was convicted of rendering criminal assistance by helping his getaway driver avoid police.
Department of Corrections Spokesman Chad Lewis tells Q13fox.com that Clemmons' release is dictated by sentencing guidelines set by the legislature and courts.
La Tanya's conviction was overturned by a state appeals court last month, but the Pierce County Prosecutor says he plans to appeal to the state Supreme Court.
