PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (Metro) -- An 18-year-old man from Port Orchard and a 24-year-old Department of Natural Resources diver apparently drowned in unrelated accidents yesterday in South Kitsap and Bainbridge Island.
South Kitsap Fire Battalion Chief Jon Gudmundsen tells kitsapsun.com that the 18-year-old was swimming with a friend from Mason County around 6 p.m., when he went under at the Long Lake boat ramp near Clover Valley Road.
Bystanders pulled the victim onto a surfboard and did CPR until rescue crews arrived.
He died later at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
On Bainbridge Island, searchers are still trying to find the body of a 24-year-old diver who disappeared yesterday afternoon in Rich Passage.
DNR spokeswoman Toni Droscher said the man and other DNR divers were testing geoducks for paralytic shellfish poison, when he disappeared.
Bainbridge police and Coast Guard officials are investigating.
No names are being released, until families are notified.
