Ferndale To Hear Update On Coal Shipping Terminal Proposal

FERNDALE, Wash. -- The Ferndale City Council at its meeting tonight will hear a presentation from the developers of the Gateway Pacific Terminal proposal.

The City passed a resolution last year supporting SSA Marine and the shipping terminal proposed for Cherry Point.

Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen says SSA Marine will update the Council on the progress of the proposal.

He says most Ferndale citizens want to see how the company plans to mitigate any impacts of the project.

Mayor Jensen says Ferndale is most concerned about increasing rail traffic.

He says this is the second time SSA Marine has presented Ferndale with an update on the project.

The Ferndale City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 5694 Second Avenue in Ferndale.
