FERNDALE, Wash. -- Interstate 5 near Ferndale was completely shut down Saturday night after a man was seen firing shots from the Smith Road overpass.
A Ferndale police officer reportedly saw a man in dark clothing shooting a rifle over the northbound side of I-5 around 10:15 p.m. Saturday.
No one in the area was reported injured.
Trooper Keith Leary says the State Patrol quickly closed the northbound and southbound lanes near the overpass as local law enforcement agencies searched for the shooter.
Several KGMI listeners reported seeing a helicopter and police dogs searching in the area.
Officers were unable to find the shooter, and the freeway was reopened around 12:15 a.m.
