Local Sikh Temple Opens Doors In Wake Of Tragedy

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Our local Sikh community is shocked and saddened by the recent massacre at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.

In response, the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple near Lynden is opening its doors for a community gathering and special service so people of all faiths can learn more about the Sikh community.

Manjit Dhaliwal, Treasurer of the Guru Nanak Temple, says Sikh people are a hardworking, peaceful and patriotic group.

He says the local Sikh community consists of only 300 to 400 families in Whatcom County, and as a result they can be a misunderstood group.

The open house and special service will be held this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sikh temple at 176 East Pole Road.

A free lunch, or "langar," will be served after the service.
