DelBene v. Koster For Newly-Formed 1st District

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Democrat Suzan DelBene will square off with Republican John Koster in November’s general election vote for the all-new First Congressional District.

The newly-formed district includes all of Whatcom County north and east of Bellingham.

With five democrats on the ticket, DelBene took 23 percent of last night’s primary vote. Koster was the lone Republican in the primary race, and he walked away with 44 percent of the ballots so far.

Whatcom County voters gave Koster 55 percent to DelBene’s 22 percent. In the Second District race, Dan Matthews will be the Republican to take on incumbent Democrat Rick Larsen.

With three Republicans on the ballot, Matthews took 27 percent of the vote, and Larsen took 60 percent as the lone Democrat.

The newly-modified district covers the city of Bellingham and the area directly south.

Local voters favored Larsen as well, giving him 66 percent to Matthew’s 21 percent.
