BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Local developers say they are interested in restoring the historic granary building on Bellingham's waterfront.
Developer John Blethen led a tour of local officials and builders through the granary on Wednesday, and he says many of them agreed that the 1928 building is well suited for re-use.
The Port of Bellingham owns the property, and wants to demolish the building in order to clear the site for redevelopment.
Blethen says the port should send out a request for proposals to redevelop the building before they knock it down.
The port has said it could cost $14 million to remodel the building, but Blethen says it could cost a lot less depending on the use of the building.
