WASHINGTON STATE -- A new study shows that gas consumption in the Northwest has hit a 50-year low.

The study from sightline institute shows residents in Washington consumed 7.3 gallons of gas on an average week in 2011.

Clark Williams-Derry, author of the study, says high prices are taking a bite out of our appetite for gas.



He says we're also changing our driving habits and using more fuel-efficient vehicles.

The study also finds that Northwest residents are driving a lot less than a decade ago, especially drivers under 35.

Traffic in the Northwest has remained flat for the last decade.
