VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee and GOP candidate Rob McKenna face off in their first one-on-one debate leading up to the November general election, with jobs and education among the primary topics.
During last night's debate, which was held on the Vancouver campus of Washington State University, McKenna said the state must put more money into education by capping increases in other areas of state government, while Inslee said more efficient management of state government and a preventive approach to health care would free up more money to fund education.
Inslee said he wants to see a "technological revolution in biotechnology and clean energy" to help grow Washington's economy, while McKenna says relaxed regulation and worker's compensation reform for businesses would help turn the economy around.
