Suspected Sniper Dead After Shooting Near Arlington

ARLINGTON, Wash. -- Snohomish County sheriff's deputies say a suspected sniper is dead following a SWAT team response near the community of Arlington.

Authorities say a resident called in around 1:30 p.m. Sunday to report he'd been shot in the leg while in his driveway and had heard shots being fired during the previous few minutes.

Sheriff's Lieutenant Steve Dittoe says the SWAT team was dispatched after it had been determined that someone from a nearby wooded area was firing at either vehicles or people in the area.

Dittoe says members of the SWAT team and an armored vehicle came under fire after the personnel arrived at the scene.

The suspect was found shot to death in the vicinity of Jim Creek Road and 250th Street Northeast.

Dittoe says a search was conducted for a possible second suspect but was called off.
