FERNDALE, Wash. -- A local blueberry farm and a farm labor contractor have been fined for breaking federal labor laws.
PTM Berry Farms and Vicente Labor Contractor of Ferndale were fined for failing to pay the required federal minimum wage to 188 workers.
U.S. Labor Department spokeswoman Deanne Amaden says they also found children working in the berry field.

She says agricultural workers need to be at least 12 years old.
The farm and contractor agreed to pay $32,000 each for the child labor violations, as well as a total over $12,000 for the workers that were underpaid.
Amaden says both the farm and the contractor have paid the fines and agreed to comply with labor laws in the future.
