County Council To Discuss Land Reconveyance Tonight

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Supporters and opponents of a big land reconveyance in the Lake Whatcom watershed are calling for people to show up at tonight’s Whatcom County Council meeting.

The council will hold a public hearing and possibly a vote on the reconveyance of roughly 8,700 acres in the watershed from the State Department of Natural Resources to the county.

The goal would be to protect water quality in the lake by ending logging on the parcels, which would be transformed into a county park.

The council could also take action on an ordinance regulating wind power generation in the county.
