Ferndale Officials Say Several Months To Fix Hard Water

FERNDALE, Wash. -- Residents of Ferndale will have to put up with the city's new hard water for quite a while.

Ferndale city leaders are saying it will take several months before they can find a solution to fix the hard water problem.

They hope to have a plan for the city council to look at by the end of the year.

Ferndale city clerk Sam Taylor says the hard water, which contains higher levels of minerals, meets or exceeds every quality standard, and may even have minor health benefits.

The new water does have a different pH level than the previous water source, which can affect pet fish.

Taylor says even with an expensive water-softening system, the new water coming from city wells may still cost the city less than getting the water from its previous source.
