The city council met with private consultants yesterday who proposed raising stormwater fees by about $1.50 per month for 2013.
Bellingham city councilman Stan Snapp says the fees aren't keeping up with the costs to maintain the city's stormwater infrastructure.
The consultants also recommend a six percent increase in stormwater rates each year for the next four years.
The higher stormwater bills would be in addition to a three or four dollar increase in water and sewer rates that consultants recommended earlier this month.
All of the utility fee increases, if approved, would take affect January 1.
