Teen Fakes Bomb Threat To Finish Homework

NOOKSACK, Wash. -- Classes at Nooksack Valley Middle School got a rough start after police say a student threatened to blow up the school.

The 13-year-old student called 911 saying that a bomb would go off at the start of class yesterday, which was a late-arrival day.

Police tracked the call and arrested the student as he was getting off a school bus around 9:45.

Everson Police Chief Erik Ramstead says the boy told officers he made the threat so he could have more time to finish his homework.

He says the boy is not a bad kid, "he just made a really bad choice."

Students and staff were evacuated and buses were rerouted as police and bomb sniffing dogs searched the school.

No explosives were found.

Students were back in their regular classrooms by 10:30.

The boy was booked into jail and is facing felony charges of threatening to bomb or injure property.
