IT’LL COST YOU MORE TO GET A DRIVER LICENSE STARTING MONDAY.

ON OCTOBER 1ST, A NEW LICENSE GOES FROM 45 DOLLARS TO 80 DOLLARS.
THE RENEWAL COST IS ALSO GOING UP, FROM 25 DOLLARS TO 45 DOLLARS.

BRAD BENFIELD FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LICENSING SAYS THE INCREASED FEES WERE PASSED BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE EARLIER THIS YEAR.
 
WASHINGOTN DRIVERS NEED TO RENEW THEIR LICENSE EVERY FIVE YEARS, BUT BENFIELD SAYS THE LEGISLATURE IS CONSIDERING EXTENDING THAT TO SIX YEARS STARTING NEXT YEAR.

THE COST TO ADD OR RENEW A COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE IS ALSO GOING UP.

THE MONEY WILL GO INTO THE STATE'S GENERAL TRANSPORTATION FUND.
