Charges Expected After Death Of Bellingham Teen

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Police are saying there's likely to be charges in the death of a 14-year-old Bellingham girl.

Drugs and alcohol are involved in the death of Whatcom Middle School student Hazel Phair.

Lieutenant Rick Sucee reports Phair had consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana before she returned home at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning and went to bed.



Phair's mother found her not breathing when she checked a few hours later.

The medical examiner tells Sucee that Phair appears to have suffocated on her own vomit.

He says if police discover who provided her with the drugs and alcohol, there could be criminal charges.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bellingham police.
