Gains In Whatcom Home Sales, Prices

WHATCOM, Wash. -- The number of homes sold and home prices in Whatcom County both saw modest gains over the summer.

The number of county homes sold this summer rose to 582, up 3.9 percent over last summer according to a report from Lylene Johnson of the Muljat Group, who analyzed data from the northwest multiple listing service.

Home sales were up for the year in every area except Birch Bay and Blaine.

The median price for Whatcom County homes sold in the third quarter increased 4.6 percent to $254,300.

Johnson said the most noteworthy trend is the continued decline in inventory, which in Bellingham has dropped year over year for 20 consecutive months.

She says the low inventory likely will continue for a while and keep home sales limited.
