$4.1 Billion Requested To Fund WA Education

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Is an additional $4.1 billion what the state needs to fund our failing basic education system?

Superintendant of Public Instruction Randy Dorn submitted this request in the biennial budget to Governor Christine Gregoire saying it helps the state reach the goal of fully funding basic education as was ordered by the Supreme Court.

State Senator Doug Ericksen of Ferndale says Dorn is only half right.

Ericksen says one idea he has supported is funding education first then using the remainder of the money to fund state government.

The Supreme Court came to the conclusion that our state is failing its obligation to fully fund basic education and has given the state until 2018 to achieve it.
