Seattle Street To Be Renamed For Beloved TV Clown

SEATTLE, Wash. (Metro) -- The Seattle City Council votes to rename a street in the city's Fremont neighborhood after a man who entertained both children and adults in the Puget Sound area for decades.

The council voted to rename the stretch of North 34th between Fremont and Troll avenues "J.P. Patches Place."

Chris Wedes played J.P. on television from 1958 to 1981 and continued to make appearances as the beloved "Mayor of the City Dump" until last year.

Wedes died in July at age 84.
