BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Bellingham police took a man into protective custody after he threatened to harm himself last night.
Sgt. Claudia Murphy with the Bellingham police Department says the 56-year-old man called 911 at about 8 p.m. and said he had a gun in his vehicle and intended to hurt himself.
Officers located the car on Byron Avenue near Samish Way and Bill McDonald Parkway and cordoned off the area.
The man surrendered after several hours of negotiations.
Western Washington University’s campus alert system notified students and staff of the situation and when it was resolved at about midnight.
