BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Coast Guard is encouraging boaters in Bellingham to prepare their vessels in anticipation of severe winter weather conditions.

Also be sure to cover and secure your boat. Heavy rains can flood boats and cause them to sink.
The Coast Guard says simple preventative maintenance can prevent boats from sinking and polluting our state's waters.
If your boat sinks and causes pollution due to severe weather, you could get stuck paying fines and salvage costs.
