Port To Vote On Land Swap With City

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Port of Bellingham Commission is scheduled to vote this afternoon on a resolution that would start a land swap with city and set the stage for redeveloping the waterfront.

The resolution would declare that the port no longer needs its properties involved in the land swap, clearing the way for a trade with the city.

John Servais with www.nwcitizen.com, an expert on local port issues, says the land swap might help both sides work better together on the waterfront.

He says this land swap has the fingerprints of Mayor Kelli Linville's involvement, because it would break one of the logjams that was getting in the way of the redevelopment. .

The Port Commission meets at 3 p.m. at the Harbor Center meeting room on Roeder Avenue.
