State Patrol On Lookout for Unsafe Drivers

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Watch the way you drive around any commercial vehicles this week.

The Washington State Patrol is watching for unsafe behavior from drivers of both cars and trucks as it participates in America's Operation Safe Driver.

Trooper Keith Leary says be sure to leave plenty of room around semi trucks.

He says the top five violations troopers see around big rigs is speeding, inattention, failing to yield the right of way, unsafe lane changes, and following too close.

Troopers are also inspecting commercial vehicles, and targeting aggressive and fatigued truck and bus drivers.

Last year, troopers in Washington took 173 vehicles and 76 drivers out of service during operation safe driver.
