Doctor Says Comments On Coal Dust Taken Out Of Context

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The doctor leading a group against the proposed coal shipping terminal at Cherry Point is firing back at critics who say he's no longer concerned about coal dust.

Dr. Frank James with the group "Whatcom Docs" was quoted in a recent article saying "there are not a lot of consequences of coal dust."

He now says his comments in the article are being taken out of context.

Dr. James says there are serious health affects from coal dust, but federal laws already limit exposure for coal miners and others who are most impacted by it.

He says supporters of the Gateway Pacific Terminal keep bringing up coal dust because they don't want to talk about Deisel pollution, noise and other factors that could threaten people's health if coal train traffic increases.
