Congressman Rick Larsen announced yesterday that federally-impacted schools in the northwest will now get 70 percent of their federal "impact aid" funding immediately.
Larsen wrote the impact aid timely repayment act which was approved earlier this year.
He says the bill will help provide schools "the certainty they need to operate.”
The Ferndale School District gets more than $337-thousand in impact aid, and the Nooksack Valley School District gets nearly $59 thousand for 2012.
The U.S. Department of Education had previously announced that school districts would only see an immediate payment of 45 percent of the amount due.
School districts that serve military communities and Indian tribes rely on impact aid funding to make up for lost property tax revenue.
