The Bellingham Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2013 Citizen's Academy.
The Citizens Academy is a 10 week program designed to help residents increase their understanding of how the police department works within the community.
It includes courses on firearms, patrol procedures, the use of force, investigations, traffic enforcement, and K9 searches.
There is no cost to participate in the Citizens Academy, but applicants must complete a background check.
Those interested need to apply through the city's web site no later than December 14.
The Citizens Academy winter 2013 classes will start February 5.
