WA High School Graduation Rate Ranks 32nd

OLYMPIA, Wash.  (Metro)  -- The U.S. Department of Education releases preliminary numbers on the high school graduation rates in each state, and Washington ranks in the lower half.

The figures, from the 2010-11 school year, show the Evergreen State's graduation rate was 76 percent, tied for 32nd place with California, Utah, and West Virginia.

The education department's numbers were calculated with each state using the same method to determine how many freshmen graduate four years after entering high school.

Iowa had the highest high school graduation rate at 88 percent, while Nevada had the lowest at 62 percent.
