Mitch Knowles with the county Fire Marshal's Office says if your put a natural tree in your home this holiday, keep it well-watered and keep it away from heat sources.
And he says if you have an artificial Christmas tree, make sure it is nonflammable or flame-retardant.
Also, inspect your holiday lights for frayed wires and excessive wear before plugging them in each year.
And don't link together more than three strands of holiday lights, unless the directions say it is safe.
