Sheriff Bill Elfo says Adrian Sassen Van Elsloo was wanted on drug charges.
He says Bellingham police tried to arrest him in Skagit County when a chase began.
Elfo says Sassen Van Elsloo was armed, and refused to surrender when the standoff began on Nulle Road just east of Interstate 5 near the Skagit County line.
Officers eventually forced him from the vehicle with a non-lethal device and he was arrested on numerous warrants and charges stemming from the chase.
The 30-year-old Sassen Van Elsloo was the focus of the police chase in 2001 that killed Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Herzog.
