EVERETT, Wash. (Metro) -- An Everett man is spending life in prison for stealing cigarettes and $60 from a Snohomish market. The armed robbery was Keith Puett's third strike and by law he was sentenced to prison for life. Puett's previous convictions were for second degree assault. The three-strike law was approved by voters in 1993. Opponents of the law have tried to drop some lesser crimes from the list of strikes, but the law has remained mostly unchanged since its inception. Copyright © 2012 Metro Networks Inc.
