Sheriff’s Sergeant Doug Burks says officers initially responded to a report that a handgun had been stolen from a vehicle in the county.
The owner told officers she suspected her ex-boyfriend.
Later, an officer saw the suspect’s car at the motel.
Burks says officers spend hours trying to talk the suspect out before eventually extracting him from the room and seizing the forty-caliber weapon.
Officers arrested Joseph Mendez, who was identified as a “transient” from California.
