Bellingham, WA -- A local doctor is warning state residents about the negative health effects of marijuana, especially since voters have recently legalized it's use.
Whatcom County Health Officer Doctor Greg Stern says long term use can be even more damaging.
He says just like regular cigarettes, smoking marijuana can lead to lung diseases and cancer.
While there are arguments about the drug not being addictive, Stern says about 10-percent of people do become addicted and heavy use can damage cognitive ability, sleep, and memory.
