The Seattle based company says its Lynden drying facility - which was ravaged by fire several months ago — is expected to be online and ready for production by May of this year.
Dairy insiders say the plant is ideally located in closer proximity to foreign markets and is a major producer of products that are shipped to Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East and northern Africa.
Darigold ingredients division Senior Vice-President Dermot Carey says that milk exports to foreign markets have been on the upswing over the last several years due to growing middle classes abroad.
Carey also says that while domestic dairy markets have been tight, exports from companies like Darigold - which ships about one-quarter of all milk powder from the U.S. overseas - helps sustain milk prices at home.
