Bellingham, WA (KGMI) -- The cold weather snap has experts campaigning to get people to winterize their homes.
'Take Winter By Storm', a collaborative initiative founded by State Farm Insurance and other organizations, is warning people to take care of pipes in their homes as temperatures in our area continue to drop below freezing levels.
Experts say that planning ahead is the best way to keep pipes from freezing.
State Farm Spokesperson Brad Hilliard says homeowners should insulate pipes that run along outside walls, floors and ceilings to avoid problems.
Hilliard also suggests taking even minimal steps like keeping cabinet doors open and letting water trickle through faucets to avoid having pipes burst.
