The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says searchers found two stranded Vancouver, B.C. men at the 8,500 foot level by 11 a.m. Monday, eight hours after the climbers had set off an emergency beacon.
Deputy Mark Jilk says when the helicopter from the Whidbey Island Naval Base arrived, one of the men was able to ski down the mountain.
Jilk says he was flown to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham for treatment.
He says the duo had been on their way down the mountain after reaching its summit Sunday.
