Friends, Family Of Fallen Soldier Raise Money For Memorial

SKAGIT, Wash. -- Friends and family of a fallen soldier from Skagit County are hoping to raise enough money for a memorial in time for a dedication ceremony this summer.

Douglas Vose was a special forces soldier from Concrete who was killed during combat in Afghanistan in 2009.

Michael Frank of Seattle says being a professional soldier was Vose’s passion.

He says Vose’s friends, family, and fellow soldiers are planning to honor his memory with a life-sized bronze statue.

They hope to dedicate the memorial at the concrete high school grounds with a ceremony on July 27, two days prior to the 4 year anniversary of his death.

The group needs $40,000 to build the memorial, and so far they have raised over $11,000.

Those interested in donating to the project can go to http://www.gofundme.com/1sqyh8.
