Senator Says Wolf Relocation Bill Is A Jab

Olympia, Wash. -- Democratic Senator Kevin Ranker says productive wolf policy-making in Olympia has gone to the dogs.

The 40th District Senator says Bill 1258 recently proposed by Republican Congressman Joel Kretz from Eastern Washington is a jab at Ranker’s stance to protect gray wolf packs.

Kretz is proposing wolves be relocated to Western Washington, specifically Orcas Island where Ranker lives.

The wolves have been re-establishing themselves in our state over the last five years to the dismay of many ranchers.

The Senator says the bill is partly a response to him speaking out against wolf pack killings at the hands of Fish and Wildlife officials last summer.

Ranker also says he has been unpopular with some ranchers and politicians because his policies encourage using nonlethal measures above killing to manage wolf population.
