The state Supreme Court has ruled that the law requiring a two-thirds majority vote by the legislature to raise taxes is unconstitutional.
Voters have approved the super-majority rule in a number of initiatives sponsored by Tim Eyman, most recently in last November’s election.
In a 6-3 opinion, the court ruled that, under the state constitution, a bill becomes law with a simple majority vote of the legislature and a super-majority rule would require an amendment to the constitution.
