Ferndale Soft Water Plans

Ferndale, Wash. -- The Ferndale City Council is moving forward with a plan to fix the city's hard water.

After a study session Monday, the council decided that a nano-filtration system was the best method to soften the water.

Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen says the system filters out the minerals that can damage pipes and appliances.

Mayor Jensen says he gets several calls every day from people telling him how the hard water is affecting their lives.

The new system is expected to cost between $1.7 and $2 million.

The city is going to pay for it out of existing funds without raising the price of water.

After testing and getting approval from the Department of Health, it could be up to a year before the city starts seeing softer water.
