Bellingham, Wash. (Metro) -- Officials say a lion that killed an intern who had ties to Bellingham at an animal sanctuary in California had escaped from its pen.
They now say the attack Wednesday happened while 24-year-old Dianna Hanson was cleaning a main enclosure at the facility.
She died from a broken neck.

Hanson graduated from Western Washington University in 2011 and also worked as a ski instructor at Mount Baker Ski area.
The "Fresno Bee" reports that the animal that attacked Hanson had been raised at Project Survival's Cat Haven near Fresno from the time it was an eight-week-old cub.
