Measure Would Expand Involuntary Commitment For Mentally Ill

Olympia, Wash. (Metro) -- A House committee is considering a bill that would allow more people who present a potential danger to themselves or others to be committed against their will.

The bill's primary sponsor, Lakewood Representative Tami Green, says it's part of an effort to better identify and address the needs of people with serious mental illnesses.

The House Judiciary Committee held a public hearing on the bill Thursday and has scheduled an executive session on the measure next week.
