Areas Of San Juan Islands Designated National Monument

San Jaun Islands, Wash.  (Metro)  -- President Obama will soon sign a proclamation, designating a thousand acres on the San Juan Islands as a federally-protected national monument.

Senator Maria Cantwell says the designation will ensure that 60 locations across the islands "will remain a permanent part of what makes the San Juans so special."

The president is slated to sign the proclamation Monday.
