BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Some passengers flying to Bellingham from Seattle experienced a rough ride late Sunday night.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident at Bellingham International Airport, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.
"A Horizon Flight going from Seattle to Bellingham landed what they call 'long and fast' on runway 34, and went off the end of the runway into a grassy area," said Kenitzer.
No one was hurt in the landing just before midnight according to the FAA.
Bellingham resident Steve Hubbard was on the flight.
"It sounded like taking a car across a rough road," Hubbard said. "Everybody got thrown pretty hard forward in their seats, I mean the plane came to a really rapid stop, or decceleration anyway."
"Pretty much all the momentum was being thrown forward in your seats," he said. "We didn't get thrown around a lot, but it wasn't exactly the ride you want to take at Disneyland."
Hubbard said passengers were eventually taken off the plane in small groups and shuttled back to the terminal.
According to Kenitzer, FAA officials are not yet saying what caused the plane to overshoot the runway.
He did say the plane sustained some minor damage in the landing.
