BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Governor Christine Gregoire was in Bellingham Monday for the dedication of the Waterfront Innovation Zone Technology Development Center in the former Georgia-Pacific tissue warehouse on Bellingham’s waterfront.
The new $1.7-million facility will be used by Western Washington University and Bellingham Technical College students to develop and use new technologies and materials.
"What we really see the Innovation Zone doing is attracting a lot more businesses to the waterfront who want to be part of developing and using these new and emerging technologies," said Port of Bellingham spokesperson Carolyn Casey,
"so we think long-term this is going to be a real job creator for our waterfront."
Casey said the center is the result of a partnership between the Port, the university, and the technical college.
