BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Today, Tuesday November 3rd, is Election Day.
Some of the top races in Whatcom County are for County Council and Bellingham City Council seats, and spots on the Port of Bellingham commission.
Also, Lynden voters pick their next mayor, and the Bellingham School Board will have a new look after this election.
A local library levy and two statewide ballot measures are on the ballot as well.
Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed says voting ‘approve’ on R-71 means you support expanded domestic partnership rights for gay and senior couples.
“What you’re being asked is, ‘Do you approve of what the legislature has done?’ – in this case, adopting a domestic partnership act which includes all legal rights except for marriage,” said Reed.
The same is true for the Eyman initiative to cap government revenue growth.
Ballots must be postmarked by today, or dropped off at a designated site such as the County Courthouse, Blaine City Hall, the Deming, Everson, Ferndale, and Lynden libraries, and the Viking Union at Western Washington University.
All drop site locations close at 8 p.m.
“I expect us to have a good turnout this year,” said Reed.
“We do have these two statewide ballot measures that are stirring things up,” he said.
