Whatcom Middle School Students To Relocate This Week

tracy@kgmi.com

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham School District has released a relocation plan for Whatcom Middle School students, whose school was badly damaged in last Thursday's fire.

Acting superintendent Sherri Brown said starting this Thursday, eighth graders will go to Bellingham High School, seventh graders will attend class at Fairhaven Middle School and sixth grade students will go to Geneva Elementary School.

Eighth graders will be in their own wing of the high school with Whatcom Middle School staff.

Seventh grade students will have their Whatcom teachers at Fairhaven.

Sixth grade students at Geneva will also have their same Whatcom teachers.

District spokesperson Tanya Rowe said they considered many factors before relocating the students.

"One of our top priorities is to keep as many students together as possible, preferably by grade level," Rowe said.

Whatcom families will receive details about the plan, school schedules, and transportation at a 6:30 p.m. meeting Monday evening in the Bellingham High School auditorium.
