Shooter's Mom: Skagit Massacre Could Have Been Prevented

kgmi@kgmi.com

ALGER, Wash. -- The mother of the man who killed six people in the Alger area last year is saying the shootings were a tragedy that could have been prevented.

Denise Zamora is the mother of Issac Zamora.

She said her son’s mental health problems went untreated, even though she did everything in her power to get him help.

On KGMI’s Morning Show with Joe & Patti Wednesday, she said one of the top mental health experts in the country evaluated Isaac.

“She did the mental health assessment for the Unabomber and for John Hinckley,” Zamora said.

“She spent more time with my son, twice as much I believe, than she did with those other two guys, and she said he has gone so long without treatment, there’s psychosis there that has not even been discovered yet he’s so severely mentally ill.”

Denise Zamora said current laws made it impossible for her to get Isaac the treatment he required.

"We have to start using wisdom and doing the right things," she said. "We have to change the mental health laws."

She added that her heart goes out to the families of all of the victims.
