Police Warn Of Local Phone Scam

kgmi@kgmi.com

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Local law enforcement officials are warning businesses to be on alert.

Someone claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office is calling restaurants and saying an employee is in the Whatcom County Jail, according to Bellingham Police.

The caller claims the worker can be bailed out by wiring money.

This is a scam.

You can check the jail roster online or by calling the jail at (360) 676-6848.

Police reminded residents that just because someone says he or she is a law enforcement officer on the phone, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.
